Exceptions to the English Language Proficiency Requirement

  • Students who are native speakers of English from the following countries are automatically exempt: Australia, Canada (except Quebec), New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
  • Citizens of Singapore who completed their education in an English medium environment and who obtained a grade of D or better on the Singapore O-level examination are automatically exempt.
  • Non-matriculated students attending UB under reciprocal exchange agreements with international institutions of higher education are automatically exempt.
  • International applicants who have continuous residence at a U.S. college or university and who submitted a valid TOEFL or IELTS score meeting UB’s minimum requirement and taken within two years prior to arrival at the previous institution are automatically exempt.
