Myron A. ThompsonMyron A. ("Mick") Thompson has served in his present positions of Associate Provost and Executive Director of the Graduate School since 1995. In that capacity, Dr. Thompson is responsible for supervision of all administrative functions and operations of the UB Graduate School. He is also the Graduate School’s principal contact with the State University System Administration and the New York State Education Department regarding post-baccalaureate academic program matters. Between January 1, 1999 and June 30, 2000, Mick assumed the additional responsibilities of Vice Provost for Graduate Education on an interim basis.

Most previous to his current assignments, Dr. Thompson served UB as the Provost’s chief budget, personnel and operations officer (1985-1995) and as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (1976-1985). To date he has accrued more than 40 years of professional experience in higher education.

Born in Ohio, Dr. Thompson received his Ph.D. degree from UB in 1973. He has authored articles appearing in various refereed publications and has been an invited speaker at many national conferences and meetings of professional organizations. He has served as a consultant to more than 40 colleges and universities in both the public and private sectors across the United States and in Europe, and has authored numerous grant proposals that have resulted, collectively, in the award of more than $16,000,000 from federal and other sources.

Dr. Thompson is currently a member of the Board of Governors of the World Maritime University located in Malmö, Sweden. In addition, he chairs that university's External Advisory Board on Faculty and Professional Staffing. The World Maritime University operates under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN).

Dr. Thompson is also presently an elected member-at-large of the Executive Committee of the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools (NAGS). NAGS is one of the four regional affiliates of the national Council of Graduate Schools (CGS).

Mick has served on the boards of various health and community service agencies including two terms as President of the Hemophilia Center of Western New York, a full service, hospital-based treatment facility focusing on the hereditary disorders of hemophilia, Gaucher disease, and hemochromatosis.
