Marilyn E. MorrisDr. Marilyn E. Morris is Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Buffalo and Associate Dean for Graduate and Postgraduate Education in the Graduate School.

She received her B.Sc. (Pharmacy) from the University of Manitoba, Canada and M.Sc. (Pharmacology) from the University of Ottawa, Canada. After completing a Pharmacy Residency program, she was an assistant professor in the School of Pharmacy at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada. Dr. Morris was awarded her Ph.D. degree in pharmaceutics from the University at Buffalo, State University of NY for work on the pharmacokinetics of sulfate conjugation and inorganic sulfate, under the advisement of Dr. Gerhard Levy. She was a Medical Research Council Fellow working on drug metabolism in isolated perfused organ systems with Dr. K. Sandy Pang at the University of Toronto, Canada, before joining the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UB as a faculty member.

Her research interests are in the areas of drug metabolism and membrane transport, and she has published extensively on renal transport, hepatobiliary transport and hepatic clearance models, and ATP-dependent binding cassette transporters. Her recent research is focused on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the dietary components, flavonoids and organic isothiocyanates, with an emphasis on their potential for transport and metabolic drug interactions, and their role in cancer therapy and chemoprevention. Other current research projects involve evaluation of the kinetics and renal transport of monocarboxylic acids, including the drug of abuse, hydroxybutyric acid. She is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers, and has been or is currently the major advisor for 18 Ph.D. and 12 M.S. students, as well 4 postdoctoral fellows and many undergraduate (BS Pharm. Sci. and PharmD) and high school students. Dr. Morris has served on grant review committees for the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, National Science Foundation and for numerous universities, served in various positions for the professional societies, American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, served as Associate Editor of Pharmacological Reviews, and is currently on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Science, Pharmaceutical Research, AAPS Journal. She is a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. She serves on the Advisory Committee Member for the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Food and Drug Administration. Dr. Morris is a 2006 recipient of the Chancellor's Award in Excellence for Research and Creative Activity, State University of New York.
