Dr. Ho received his B.Sc. in Physics and Mathematics from the
University of Hong Kong in 1965 and Ph.D. in Physics from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology in 1969. He is an experimental condensed matter
physicist, with research interests in the use of light scattering,
magneto-optics, electro-optics, and electron diffraction to study phase
transitions and critical phenomena in ferromagnets, liquid crystals,
biomembranes, and microemulsions. He held faculty positions at the University
of Pennsylvania (1969-1974) and the University of Houston (1974-1975), before
joining the University at Buffalo. He was Associate Professor and then
Professor of Physics from 1975 to 1995, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Natural
Sciences and Mathematics from 1983 to 1998, Dean of the Faculty of Natural
Sciences and Mathematics from 1984 to 1985, Director of the Interdisciplinary
Natural Science Program from 1984 to 2000, Chairman of the Department of
Statistics from 1987 to 1989, and Associate Dean of the College of Arts and
Sciences from 1998 to 2000. He has been a SUNY Distinguished Service Professor of
Physics since 1995. He has served as Acting Vice Provost for Graduate Education and
Dean of the Graduate School since 2006, and was named Interim Vice Provost for Graduate Education and
Dean of the Graduate School in July 2007. Dr. Ho has served on various committees and panels at the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Education, and the American Physical Society. His academic honors include DuPont Young Faculty Award, Fellow of the American Physical Society, and John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellow.
