AGEP Mission
The mission of AGEP is to increase the number of underrepresented minority students pursuing doctoral degrees and subsequent faculty careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The services, activities and funds provided through the program are an important means of support for underrepresented students who are interested in, or currently pursuing, graduate study in a STEM field at the University at Buffalo and subsequent careers in the professoriate. The goal is to enrich their academic experience and promote their success.
We are dedicated to forging a commitment on the part of students, faculty, and administrators to increasing the number of qualified students interested in pursing a doctoral degree and supporting those already in the process of doing so. Our underlying objective is to ensure that students have access to services that will help them achieve their goals. The services and activities that we provide are designed to facilitate the following:
- Increase interest in graduate study and enhance recruitment of doctoral students through targeted outreach activities to undergraduates
- Improve retention of doctoral students through advising and mentoring
- Support professional development activities and community building among graduate students
- Increase the number of students entering the professoriate through programming designed to connect graduate students with information and faculty.
