Fellowship Opportunities

Fellowships are competitively awarded funds (stipend, tuition, travel) for predoctoral, postdoctoral and dissertation year work of individuals. Typically fellowship opportunities are announced in the fall, with closing dates in early November and awards made in spring of the following year. To be successful in winning a fellowship, preparation must begin at least 6 months prior to the deadline.

National Science Foundation

Graduate Research Fellowships from NSF typically provide three years support for graduate study leading to research-based doctoral degrees and is intended for students who are at the early stages of their graduate study. NSF provides tools to prepare a successful application.

National Institutes of Health

NIH provides many funded research and training opportunities at the many branches of NIH. NIH also has Research Supplements to Promote Diversity that are intended for Principal Investigators of NIH grants to supplement funding for underrepresented students.

Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships

Through its program of Diversity Fellowships, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.
